In December of 2011 I received a 1/4 Heart Necklace (http://www.zales.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1145****) from Zales as a gift from my father. I wear it everday however I do not sleep in it, shower in it or anything else that could harm it. In March 2012, I was holding my nephew and the chain broke in the middle, not near the clasp. I immediately called the 800# only to be told I have 2 options: purchase a $79 protection plan OR mail them my current necklace in the form of a return, wait up to 30 days for it to process then "re-buy" it. WHAT A JOKE. So I decide I will make the hour drive to my nearest Zales in Quincy, IL. The associates immediately try to get me to buy the $79 protection plan before even looking at my necklace. After telling them I just want my necklace fixed so I can wear it without costing me out of pocket (I would pay to get it fixed however it was a gift and I'd only had it three months before it broke!).

The associates decide to do an exchange because it hadn't been 100 days from purchase date (their exchange policy) and replaces it but while she is processing the exhange she is very rude and acted like I was imposing on her time, however I was able to go home with my necklace fixed. Problem solved, right? I wish.

Three weeks later I am at work and I get up to go to the bathroom. While I'm in the bathroom I go to pull my hair up and some of my hair is tangled in the chain. Upon pulling the hair out, the chain FALLS APART in my hand. Mind you, this was a BRAND NEW exhanged necklace breaking after only THREE WEEKS. I am obviously livid, so I throw the pendant on an old cheap chain I have and somewhat forget about it. Two weeks ago, I was in Des Moines, Iowa at the Jordan Creek Mall for a weekend away and I decided to take it with me to the Zales store there and see what they could do.

As I walk into the store with my boyfriend, two associates are sitting down clear across the store. They do not get up to greet us, one of them merely yells "hello" across the store and they basically stare at us while we walk over to them. I explain the story above and ask them what they can do. She tells me it is passed 100 days from ORIGINAL purchase date (a joke in and of itself considering it was exchanged for a brand new one less than 2 months before...) and that I need the $79 protection plan. Annoyed that all any of these people will do is try to sell me something I tell them that's not an option, it's a JOKE that it broke after 3 weeks.

The lady is pissy with me and is completely RUDE. I tell her I need other options and she just snoots at me saying she'll call her manager. I explain to her I live over an hour from any Zales store and don't have any options. She didn't even want to go look to see if she had another same necklace to do an exchange. I am sorry if you are WORKING and have to get off your *** to go do that job. Anyways....she calls her manager and comes back to me telling me "She'll exchange it for me this once but if it breaks again it's on me for not having a protection plan". Wow, okay, so we tell her that's fine but we won't be shopping with them and neither will our families after this. She takes the chain off of their necklace and replaces mine, all the while she's telling me how theses are "jeweler's chains and aren't meant to last" THEN WHY THE *** WOULD YOU SELL THE POS IN THE FIRST PLACE?

After replacing the chain she tosses it on the glass counter and walks away. Doesn't say a word, doesn't clean it, doesn't even put it in the box just tosses it on the counter. How rude and *** to treat someone?

That's terrible. I wouldn't shop there ever again.

I don't buy a lot of jewelry but when I want to make my girlfriend happy for our anniversary I go to this place online rather than to the mall. After reading this, I'm glad I stick with them.

They got heck of a better price than anyone anyways. jewelrydiscounthouse.com is the name and you can get some diamonds there much cheaper than the mall, that's for sure.
