This isn't about the actual products but with an experience I had with the ignorant workers at Zales. I came in for an interview about 2 weeks ago.

First, I had to wait 20 minutes (I was on time for the interview) because the manager who was to interview me was with a customer. So one of her associates said "I'll close out the sale, go do the interview she's been waiting awhile". The manager told her, "I don't care she can wait." After hearing this, I should have left right then but with this economy I need a job and brushed it off. So after she was done her sale she was making excuses about the wait although I was right there and heard it all.

Guess where the interview was? In the middle of the mall on a bench where hundreds of people were walking past. I was in a suit, blouse, and dress pants. She said to me "I know your generation likes to show cleavage and flip-flops but it's totally inappropriate for work wear" And I looked at my outfit then hers and my outfit was more conservative, my blouse was all the way buttoned up while hers had at least 3 buttons undone!

So I just let it go. She asked about my past work experience so I told her and I guess she was insulted that I worked at Macy's and have experience (well isn't that what you want?) because she started ranting about Zales does better sales than Macy's and they have better customer service, make a lot more money, and their actual sales are better as well. I just let her rant. Other than where I worked before, the only other question she asked me was if I had any questions for her, which I did ask one.

But the entire time, she didn't make eye contact with me but instead looked around the mall like I wasn't even there. Just ranting about how great Zales and herself is because she's a manager of a small mall store that I never see many customers in when I'm in the mall anyway. Also she tells me I will only be on gemstones until I'm 100% trained because no one is trusted around them until they are trained. Then adds in (employees get 1% commission on sales, not bad) except if I'm doing gemstones, that will literally be pennies.

And she says if you ask any associate for help, they automatically get half of your sale. So oh, if a new person asked a question (which they most likely will, well because they're new) they lose half of their sale of measly gemstones. Sounds wonderful although I already have experience in fine jewelry and could probably sell more diamonds than you, ignorant condescending manager. When the interview concluded, she tells me she's very busy and will call my references then call me back to have another meeting.

( I live 30 minutes away and drove all that way for a chat and she wants me to come in for another meeting to discuss money I suppose?) I let her know how long the drive is and gas money is expensive especially if you're jobless like myself. And she says well I won't do it over the phone so you will have to come in. (what is so top secret that someone will *** into our phone call for you to offer me minimum wage) But I said okay, I'll gladly come to meet with you to discuss it I'm sorry. Anyway, it's been 2 weeks and no phone call from her.

I called my reference to ask if he heard anything from Zales about calling my references and he said no not a word. So that's great, she didn't even check my references and wrote me off because I asked a simple question then agreed to come in anyway? What because I told you all about my sales at Macy's and you don't want to pay me what I deserve? Or because I was dressed better than you and you were afraid I'd show you up?

Come on now, I'm a 20 something year old just looking to make a living. Guess I should have came dressed in jeans and kissed her feet for her to hire me? Also, she put out there how the longest employee at her store has been there for a year. (And that Zales has been there for years) Well that says something about you, Ms.

Ignorant Great Manager.

I was actually thinking of getting our wedding bands at Zales but knowing how ignorant she was and how embarrassed I'd be to show up there after that, I'm going to Kay Jeweler's instead. No wonder why Zales is going down the tubes because their management is HORRID.

Sounds just like the manager in the Chattanooga store. I worked there for about a month.

Worst boss I've ever had in 30 years of working. Be thankful you weren't hired.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. The manager who interviewed you sounds very incompetent.

I work for Zales and although I am only part-time, I can assure you that not all Zales are not the same. I hope you have since found employment that you find personal happiness in.

I WAS JUST THROWN IN THERE WITH THE DIAMONDS!!!!!! LOL,TARDS you watch a video, learn the 4 C's, that's it, here's your key to the cases.

If another sales person even talks with your client you split the 1% commission, seriously not being afraid of the pissed off customers was my gold mine. Come in with issues, I took care of them and sold them something else, they wouldn't even bother with the rest of the staff.

Man, I though I was a *** in some of my comments, I worked at Zales, the POWERTRIP IS INSANE. I feel for you, everyday was a major competition and when I got promoted before this one old B-Word:) she tried everything to get me fired, but alas, she took a ride outta there.

Sounds like she may have landed about 30 minutes from you! ZALES, I don't miss it, but I do miss the customers. These others need to shut up. I can't find anything you did wrong but I can see what she did.

You were a threat, hence no call back.

It's blatantly there if you discription of events is accurate. Zales corporate probably loves her, your better off.

So if Zales and Macy's are different. she still has some experience and I think she meant by the gas money that if the manager doesn't want to hire her.

Don't make me waste my gas on a useless trip. I believe her about the manager showing cleavage, because I went to zales store be4. Zales store might be better in sales, but not so good in customer service or the store doesn't know what their talking about. My fiancรฉ had purchased a ring for me online and he chose a certain color and they send him the wrong color so he called customer service and told him what happened.

They told him he had two options.either send it back and get your money after how many weeks or go to the store and change it. So he went to the store and they told him something different. They said he couldn't change it, because he had got it online plus we're doing inventory so we can't exchange it.

He ask them if he could put a warranty on the ring, they told him no because its not the same color thats written in the paper...... and the sales person just walked away from him to help another person how rude....

Then you should probably file your own complaint. That has absolutely nothing to do with what this immature know-it-all posted.

Another thing: follow up with the manager. That's what most people do.

Oh, and grow up. You sound like a stuck up snob.

Guest

Well, it looks like they weren't interested in you. You think you know fine jewelry because you worked at Macy's?

There is a huge difference between Zales and Macy's. Macy's is a department store and the quality isn't there. You sound pretty stuck up.. You act like you've got what it takes to work in jewelry and yet you refuse to even try to understand the store's policies.

There are reasons why they don't just throw new people in with the diamonds. There is so much to learn about diamonds, even "measly gemstones".. If you say the wrong thing to a customer, you could actually be in legal trouble. And what you need to understand is that when an associate is with a client, they are with that client and should not be bothered.

This person could potentially buy thousands and thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.

Stop acting so high and mighty. And no, I don't work for Zales, but another fine jewelry store and am sick of little girls like yourself thinking they know everything.

Wow I just applied for a job at a zales outlet store, I love jewelry but if I get an interview and the manager says something like that id call corporate that's an outrage! And she sounded like she has an age discrimination which is a huge no no. She sounds rude and bias.

Just because you live 30 minutes away, doesn't mean you should get the job. You don't sound mature enough to be working in a jewelry store, let along to think about being married.

I have to disagree with you. She sounds mature enough to me. She also never said that she deserved the job because she lived 30 minutes away.
